movie quotes

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] empressvesica. I may do this often from now on. There are so many movies that have quotes I like in them. I love good conversation, but I tried to pick quotes that really meant something to me. I might try to do this once a week, depending on what's going on around here. This was strangely liberating. Especially the watching of just bits and pieces of flicks to get the quotes right.

1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones you have special feelings about
2. Pick twelve lines of dialogue that mean something to you
3. As people guess the film, strike the entry.
4. If you feel like it, explain why you chose the quote...

"I've all the demons of hell in my head. My only salvation is to vent them on paper."

That is perhaps one of my favorite movie quotes of all time, but I am not using it because it's been on the blurb for my lj for a while. I think it fits me best. The Marquis de Sade says it in the movie Quills. A little scary to think I might have had something in common with the Marquis de Sade, but I just might have... and something a bit more than literary demons. Though I don't and would never go to his extremes.

*

The ones still un-guessed are in bold...

*

1) "Please God, let it be ding dongs."

Taken from the movie April Fool's Day... as [livejournal.com profile] mpants guessed correctly. I forgot we talked about that movie, Amy. LOL. One of my fave cheesy horror flicks. It was said about dessert during dinner... before folks started dying. It's an "in" joke with me and one of my movie geek friends. This movie is one we always watch when we can't think of anything to watch. That's why it's there. The line was uttered by Arch.

*

2) "I don't care if you like us... 'cause we don't like you. You're a bad person with an ugly heart, and we don't give a flying fuck what you think."

[livejournal.com profile] mtlwritermom says Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. I love this movie. It's so fun. But I like that quote because that's how you SHOULD feel about those bitches who made you feel less than great about yourself in high school. If only we could have that feeling in high school. Said by dear Romy.

*

3) "God you're alive. I thought that rabbit was eating your head."

[livejournal.com profile] mtlwritermom, you rock the MFing Casbah! I didn't think anyone besides a handful of my buddies and myself had seen this film. Ah, The Linguini Incident. Precious few have seen this David Bowie movie. Yes, David Bowie. It's very silly and funny. I highly reccomend it. Said by David Bowie's Monty.

*

4) "One time I stole red underwear from a department store. My mother wouldn't buy them for me. She said they were Satan's panties."

[livejournal.com profile] mtlwritermom is correct. My favorite thing from Miss Congeniality. Just because I knew people growing up who would actually say things like that. Rock was "Satan's music". Horror movies were "the devil's propoganda". Wild stuff. Said by Miss Rhode Island. I can't recall her name.

*

5) "They look psycho? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them - I don't give a fuck how crazy they are."

[livejournal.com profile] mtlwritermom said From Dusk Till Dawn here. Yep yep yep. I like me some vampire movie. While Fright Night is still my ultimate vamp flick, FDTD had some stellar dialogue within. This being a prime cut. Plus, I *LOVE* George Clooney's delivery.

*

6) "Search your feelings. You know it to be true."

And [livejournal.com profile] australian_imp guesses correctly. It *IS* from Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back.

"No... I am you father."
"No... no. That's not true. That's impossible."
"Search your feelings. You know it to be true."
"Nooooooooooo! NO!"

As long as I live, I will *NEVER* forget watching that moment for the first time in a theatre as a little girl. The line in question was said by Darth Vader.

*

7) "Is it that sometimes the pain inside has to come to the surface, and when you see evidence of the pain inside, you finally know you are really here? Then when you watch the wound heal... it's comforting, isn't it?"

[livejournal.com profile] mtlwritermom, your hubby is right. It's from Secretary. I have never... NEVER heard self mutilation explained in a way that I truly understood. I get it now. Mister E. Edward Gray (James Spader) says it to Lee.

*

8) "If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn. People die. But real love is forever."

Though lots of you got The Crow, [livejournal.com profile] lunykimberly was the first. The first movie. The one with Brandon Lee. Because I really believe it. Just like I believe that thing about the dead hearing our thoughts. No one ever has to REALLY die as long as they live in your heart. Sarah says it in a voice-over at the end.

*

9) "I know. She's heading an expedition to China shortly. I'm to go as her servant... but only on the understanding that I will be very badly treated."

[livejournal.com profile] bitteliten says Sense and Sensibility, and that's right. I am a Jane Austen NERD. Full-on. I also like romance novels. Big time. Love is one of the best self-inflicted tortures of all time. Not to say that is all love is, but for most of us, the torture is a fairly large part while we kiss all those frogs in search of our prince. The line was said by Mister F to Elinor while still at Norland.

*

10) "Sometimes I feel there is a hole inside of me, an emptiness that at times seems to burn. I think if you lifted my heart to your ear, you could probably hear the ocean..."

And [livejournal.com profile] evilgreenmonkey gets it was Practical Magic. Disliked the book. Loved the film. Sally wrote those lines in her letter to Gillian. Good letter-writing skills are mighty hard to come by, and someone who can write things that poetic and not sound like they're doing a reading at poetry night has my vote. Plus, it's sister movie. I have a sister thing.

*

11) "Out by sixteen or dead in the scene. Together forever."

And [livejournal.com profile] evilgreenmonkey gets another correct with Ginger Snaps. Another sister flick, but it's werewolves not witches. This movie just really says something to me. It also has one of the most awesome opening credit sequences ever, in my opinion. I just love how "for one another" Brigitte and Ginger are. All sisters should be so close.

*

12) "So everything that doesn't fit into some stupid idea of what you think God wants, you just try to hide or fix or get rid of? I mean, it's just all too much to live up to."

Yes, it is Saved!, and [livejournal.com profile] amichandrn guessed it first. Another movie I can't say enough about. This hit home on so many levels with me, but mostly because that quote... you see it up there? That is how I feel about the bible. It was written by men filtering God's words how they saw fit to filter them. The quote was said by Mary at the end.
