*~*~*

They'd met the first time when he'd snatched her baby brother. She'd barely been a teen then.

They'd met again when she was an adult. This time he'd snatched said baby brother's girlfriend. Well, not snatched. Toby had been joking around and wished the poor girl to the goblins. He'd thought the story of the girl saving her baby brother from the Goblin King Sarah had always told him growing up was just that... a story. No, it certainly was not, and Sarah had braved the labyrinth to the castle beyond the Goblin City WITH her brother that second time instead of for her brother.

The third time was because Jareth had snatched Sarah's own child. The little girl had wished her own self away, so her mother could have an adventure. She'd had so few after she and Pippa's father had divorced. Little did her little darling know this adventure would be one that never ended.

Because every time she went into the labyrinth, he danced with her. They danced, and she absolutely loved the dancing. It was a little bit more difficult to end the dance every time. She'd told him once that he had no power over her. What a lie. If you were dancing with the right person, there was enormous power in a dance. She sighed as she watched her now-adult brother and his new bride as they finished their first dance as man and wife on the dance floor. She barely paid any attention when someone sided up to her. They were standing very close. She was smiling and watching Toby and Lane though. She paid them little mind... until they spoke.

"I do believe you and I dance a more seductive dance."

The hair on the back of her neck bristled. She'd know that voice anywhere. Sarah turned slowly to look. To confirm that her mind was not playing tricks on her.

No tricks. There he was. Always every bit the gentleman. He was looking a bit less like the king tonight though. He navy suit was pressed and his blonde hair was pulled back. No eye makeup. He almost looked respectable... if she didn't know him so well.

"Jareth."

"Hello, Sarah."

"What are you doing here?" She looked around until she located her daughter.

"Oh, Sarah. Some things of you never change. I haven't snatched Pippa or Toby or Lane this night. Haven't even snatched your dog. Nothing for you to chase after me for tonight. No reason to brave my labyrinth."

"Then why are you here?"

"To dance with you."

"What?"

"Well, no one's wishing themselves or any loved ones to the goblins, and I wanted to see you. I knew there would be dancing. I knew there would be you here... likely with no one to dance with."

Sarah blinked. "You did?"

"Sarah, you seem so surprised." He moved closer to her. "Wouldn't you want to see you again? Wouldn't you want to keep dancing with you?"

She planted a hand against his chest to prevent him from moving any closer. "Just a dance."

He leaned in closer anyhow. "Is it ever just a dance between you and I?"

Sarah swallowed nervously as he grinned and pulled her onto the dance floor. He was right.

It was never just a dance with them.
