Well, I finished my edits for the short story for the wereanimal anthology for ComStar... despite having caught a cold from someone. One day to spare. It's due tomorrow, but I already emailed it so that's taken care of. I feel slightly miserable, and my tailbone is still sore. I was going to fic some tonight, but I think I am going to lie on the sofa with a blanket and put in PoA and watch the part where Sirius and Snape square off over and over. I am still kinda behind on email replies. Sorry.

eta: I put all my D/G fics back up at FIA where they belong. I fly my D/G flag oh-so proudly. I am tired of all the nastiness concerning canon. I am tired of the ship wars happening as of late in the HP fandom. Wankity, wank, wank, wank, people. Let's all bitch about it because that's oh-so productive. I will always ship D/G whether it happens or not. The thing that only those who have known me since my Buffy days will recall is that I am usually a very hardcore UC shipper. I rarely write canon pairings. I relish writing pairings that will likely never occur (hello Marcus/Katie, Blaise/Luna Harry/Pansy). Hell, I started out writing Willow/Spike fic. Like THAT was ever gonna happen. And to those hardcore H/G shippers who are being absolute trolls about the recent canon and making the nice, peaceable H/G shippers look bad... allow us D/G shippers our illusions. Please. Go bother the Harry/Snape shippers for a little while or something, ay? No canon is gonna sink this UC shipper's ship. Now, I'm off to start a D/G mini. Troll on, trolls.

1) Congrats on the edit.

2) Wereanimals? Can I hear more about this? I have just a slight shapechanger obsession...

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Thank you. Editing is always tough for me with original works. This was even worse because I've been sick, and I knew I had to get it done TONIGHT.

2) Well, ComStar will be sending an anthology to press in August that deals in wreanimals (not wovles though, that was the challenge). Mine's a weremonkey, and the story is called "Banana Moon". It has never been posted to any of my lists or my site. If ComStar will allow it, I may put the first section up as a bit of a tease. The book containing this story is supposed to be available in September. I'll be posting more information here in my livejournal as it becomes available to me.

Grrr...I hate shipper wars. It all reminds me of my days in the Xena fandom, where the Xena/Gabrielle shippers were so rabid and mean if you happened to ship Joxer/Gabby or Ares/Xena. I had hoped that people would have learned to get along since then, but sadly, no.

[identity profile] corruptedjasper.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because obviously anyone who doesn't ship Gabrielle/Xena must be a right-wing, homophobic asshole of doom.

(Note: Sarcasm.)

[identity profile] trekkiesara.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't ever quite into that fandom, but this certainly smakcs of all the Cordelia/Angel/Buffy/Spike nonsesnse.

[identity profile] tsorriana.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Let us know when and where to buy Aunt Liz. :bounces like a white ferret: This is so wild Aunt. I can't wait to see your name in print.
As for the shipper wars...I think I'll take a page out of Momms book. Raspberry to those people. I like the wild pairings. They show some imagination dang it. Write what you like Auntie. We will always read it.

Lun

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you lot are biased. And I will certainly be shouting from the rooftops when I am in print, so you'll know.

[identity profile] fyrie.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand the point of ship wars. I've always been a UC type. I mean, it was what I was renown for in my circle of Buffy friends (I wrote graphic Buffy/Clem, for Pete's sake) and originally fangirled Spike/Willow (mainly cos one of the first scenes I saw of them was when he tried to turn her in series four).

I remain stalwartly indecisive :)

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bit of the UC myself. In fact, it was when Buffy/Spike went canon and everyone got all nasty about it that I was like, you know what? No more. And I never wrote them again. Sad really.

i mean, my OTP is NEVER gonna happen. They don't even exist in the same fandom (Willow/Snape). Doesn't mean I'm stopping my shipping.

[identity profile] fyrie.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise on the Buffy/Spike thing. I wrote dozens of B/S fics before it happened. As soon as it did, feh! The only pairing I was adamantly in love with was Spike/Dru, but I would write Spike with anyone and usually did, because I fangirled him so rabidly :D

Mind you, the moment they were shipped, I started loving S & B as platonic friends. I loved the way they were before everyone else found out Buffy came back from the dead. I loved the way the Scoobies were with Spike as well. Unfortunately, though, she came back, they knew and turned into asshats.

Ship wars are stupid.

OK, I don't like H/G. I don't like Angel/Cordy either. But that's what the canon authors wanted, and the canon authors are the gods of the fanfic world. Do I troll people who use the canon pairing I don't like? Hell no. Do I refuse to read any story with a pairing I don't like? Also, hell no. If they manage to pull the pairing off, I applaud them. If they don't, then it's most likely due to bad writing anyway and I can go find a better story to read.

I don't troll any lists or sites leaving reviews that demand a certain pairing. I personally like to let the author write the story. It is their plot, after all. And I've been converted to some pairings that I never thought would work, or that I would like. I've seen authors pull off Willow/Warren (pre-Trio of Dorkness) pairings!

So, yeah, ship wars should be left to the Navy.

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
See, there's been trolling at FIA by rabid H/G shippers. It's so stupid, but in a funny way, especially when [livejournal.com profile] mynuet mocks them in her LJ for seeking out a D/G archive if they're so hardcore H/G.

[identity profile] dadaginny.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yay on the ComStar! Let us know when it is out!

And as you know, I am a hardcore H/G shipper (with secret D/G tendencies, as I love your work), but I don't get into the wars. Gosh, live and let live?

If H/Hr would have happened in canon, I still would have been an H/G shipper, as that is what I prefer. Isn't that what fanfiction is all about? Writing something that didn't or won't happen in canon because it is something you like? It's all a matter of preference.

Hope you feel better soon!

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY. I am a D/G shipper, but that doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean I am gonna think I'm the only one allowed to have an opinion and that JoRow should be Avada'd if she doesn't bring my ship into canon. It just means that's what I like to ship. Actually, I'd prefer she left the D/G to fanon, as I am sure she will. Heck, I'm also a Willow/Snape shipper, like THAT'S ever gonna happen. And I was shipping R/Hr since reading GoF, but I never begrudged someone for being a H/Hr shipper. Just like I was so about Remus/Tonks after OotP, but never said anything to a Sirius/Remus shippers... because after the PoA movie the slash so writes itself there.

[identity profile] kinker-bell.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I think a large majority of the people who ship D/G, ship them because it's unlikely. Cannon pairings (other then R/H) bore the crap out of me. When I started reading fic it was BtVS fic. And, seriously, there's only so much Angel/Buffy one can take before you just get sick. So I found a Spike/Willow... one of yours actually. The Warrior The Witch and the Almost Complete Lack of Wardrobe. One of the first fanfics I ever read that REALLY stuck with me. You know, from time to time when I get bummed about stuff that's really trivial I just pop over to Getting Cookies and then "Fuzzy Number" and it totally cheers me up. (For the more serious stuff I re-read I Have Never Felt Your Fear and for when I'm really wrecked I head straight for A Bit of the Dark and Sinister) Then, of course, I read DitO and that sparked my love of D/G. I still read both pairings (when I EVER read BtVS fanfic) and now of course I've started in on Blaise/Luna and what Harry/Pansy I can find that doesn't make me wanna rip my head off. But it's an imagination thing for me. It's why I'm interested in the fandoms in the first place, the authors thought beyond the norm. Anyway, I guess that was my really long winded way of saying "YEAH!" or something to that effect.

[identity profile] corruptedjasper.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
(not meaning to annoy you, but this is just too good to pass up)

Well, I dunno. Cannon pairings don't sound boring at all. Well, unless it's be Cannon/Harry or something. But Cannon/Draco has got to be a True Pairing.

Or maybe they're pairings which involve cannons. Harry shoots cannons at Ginny!

I still haven't a clue why, but the pairings that resonate most for me are Draco/Ginny and Willow/Snape (would that be Snillow, Snallow, or Wilpe? I think I'll take none of the above for $300, Alex). Although I must admit that [livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk's Draco/Neville is starting to grow on me.

I hear ya, Echo. I've recently gotten some crappy reviews on my existing D/G pieces (all of which were posted before HBP came out), but I'm trying to ignore them. Or if I can't, I'll just make fun of them. :p

Case in point, below is my latest so-called review from "John Anonymous" and my response (this one is at FIA):

john (Anonymous ) on 07/27/05 - 10:28AM on chapter number 1.
all in all, i thought it was good, this is the 6th book right, half blood prince, well if it is i dont rmemeber ron ever becoming captain in the book it was always harry that is the one flaw that i have seen but on the whole it wasnt bad

Author's Response: What - Harry's the captain? Then that means...I was wrong and Draco and Ginny WON'T be getting together in Book 6? I'm crushed!! *sob*

Stupid wanker...no manners whatsoever.

I agree that D/G, although non-canon, is still fun. It's a great fanfic ship, and I don't think a little thing like new canon will sink it completely! :D

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear ya right back! It really frustrates me when people don't bother to notice the bolded note that says a fic was written pre-OotP. I get that a lot because I did some interesting things with Sirius and Narcissa before I knew they were related.

[identity profile] trekkiesara.livejournal.com 2005-07-28 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
If all we wanted was canon, we'd just read the books. The fun of fanfiction is putting the characters in situations they arent in in the shows/books.

[identity profile] lizey.livejournal.com 2005-07-29 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Whether or not I like/read a ship has absolutely nothing to do with whether there’s any canon romance between them. On one level, I don’t understand the H/Hr shippers’ upset. So your ship is no longer canonical. There are many serious (as in not Harry/Squid type) ships which aren’t canonical. It doesn’t deter people from writing them or enjoying the books.

I’m sure there are shippers who think this way and I do get that it’s upsetting for people to see the OTP that they thought was canon sink. I’ve just seen too many crazies lately, marching out of fandom claiming they’re shattered that JKR refused to call them deluded.

Whoo. Long comment. Fandom hysteria's been getting on my nerves.

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It just irks me because I've seen a couple of people leave the fandom lately because of all the nastiness. It's stupid. Ship who you ship. Let others ship who they ship.

[identity profile] spankerella.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)

*pumps fist in the air*

Not that I don't *LOVE* the canon. It's what gets me into the fanon, but I do like to dream the impossible dreams... and write them out and make them seem plausible.
