empressvesica's answers
1) So I have been dying to ask "why echo"? Anything to do with the Greek myth?
None. There was this play in high school -not a Greek one. I played a character named Echo. It was the first time I ever made an audience stop and stare. No one even knew I had a voice until then, so when I was nervous about posting my fic, a good friend suggested that name as my handle because it had given me courage once before. I have horrible performance anxiety. Sometimes I even make myself so nervous I throw up. But he said I was too talented not to share, so...

2) Since you are both a reader and a writer, what author(s) have influenced you the most or would you like to be more like in your writing? Anyone that just captures your imagination?
Joss Whedon. Obviously. He has the most amazing brain, and such a gift for interesting dialogue... and he's got a little thing for girl power.
Carrie Fisher. She's so sarcastic. So bittersweet.
I'd like to be as prolific as Jinni is and as patient with storylines. How long is that Highlander crossover of hers? 103 parts? Damn.
JK Rowling's imagination obviously fascinates me, as well as JRR Tolkien's. They created whole universes.
JD Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye" had a VERY profound effect on me.
And I've been highly influenced by Shakespeare and Jane Austen, though Jane Austen is a difficult read for me. Also, Bram Stoker. Obviously. Though I find Jonathan Harker's journal entries dull and long-winded, I love the story of Dracula. I read that at age 11. It altered me.
Stephen King probably has had the greatest impact on my writing though. It is because of him that I am completely fascinated with telekinesis and firestarting. Carrie and Charlie. And lets not even go into how bad "The Shining" scared me, or how enthralled I was with "Salem's Lot"

3) Name the one cause or belief you hold most dear.
Cancer research. I had a really good friend die of lung cancer not too many years ago, and it just about broke me. I'm also a strong advocate of education and having arts in the school. Free speech is also a thing with me.

4) What song makes you the happiest when you hear it?
"That's the Way (I Like It)" by KC and the Sunshine Band or "Dancing Queen" bu Abba.

5) If you could wake up tomorrow free of responsibilities and "to do" lists, knowing that from that day forward you could do whatever made you the happiest, without fear of failure or lacking the talent, what would you do?
Write.

6) Is there a place you would call your favorite place or somewhere you dream of visiting?
I am fond of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Liberty Island is fun. Especially in the fog. There's nothing like watching the Statue of Libery come out of the mist and rain. San Clarita Valley, California is a pretty little place. Houses in the hills. I'd like to visit Italy. I'd like to go to Scotland to see if I could see the Lochness monster.

houses's answers
1. You mentioned several times that you work on original fiction as well as fanfic. What genre of writing is it?
Fantasy. Perhaps a bit of horror. Tinge of romance. But everything has that hint of humor to it. I don't take myself too seriously. I can't. Most of these are stories dealing with witches, werevolves, vampires, and other things that go bump.

2. You also live nearish to me. Do you have any restaurants you particularly recommend? Food is my life, more less, so I'm always on the lookout for new places to try. Of particular interest are classic southern food places. [this is the reason my husband had to go on a diet. He doesn't have the metabolism from hell so spending his free time eating wasn't...er...productive]
I'm with your husband. I can't eat the stuff. My favorite place though is a little place in Grand Prairie called Don Juan's. It's been around since at least the 60s. Probably before that. It's considered fast food, but it doesn't taste it. I like their burritos. There's a place off of central expressway called Baja Fresh that's also good, also Mexican food. I like Tom Tom Noodle, it's in Mockingbird Center. Asian grill, I think they call it. Hibachi 97 in Arlington is pretty good Japanese food. I also like Pei Wei. There are a few of those in the D/FW area. If you've never been to Edelweiss in Fort Worth, you have to go at least once. It's German food. They have a dance floor and the owner plays polka music on certain nights. It's fun. Though for classic southern food, any Cracker Barrel will do. Their dumplings are pretty good. OH! Texas Roadhouse. Off of I-20 and Great Southwest Parkway. It's a steakhouse, but they serve other stuff. Their sweet potatoes are like eating a little bit of sweet heaven. I wouldn't eat there every day though. Nice and artery-clogging.

3. Why the username Echo? Does this have anything to do with the Greek Myth?
Nope. *see empressvesica's answers above for a greater explanation of my handle origin.

4. You are an impressively prolific fic writer. How do you manage your time such that you can produce quality fic on such a regular basis [says me who's always scrambling to find a free minute]
This is gonna sound crazy, but if I don't write, there's too much noise in my head. I write to make room for other stories. Ideas hit me so fast. And most of the time when I start working on a fic, most of it is perfectly laid out in my head for some odd reason. I always know the beginning and the end of a story. Plus I just honestly like to type. There's a wealth of things that I've written that have never seen the light of day.... likely never will. It also helps (hurts) that I have insomnia, and when I can't sleep I write.

5. If you had to create a soundtrack for your life, what would be on it? Any music or sound clips are eligible.
Let's say 10-15 music tracks with sound bites in between a few of them...
Spike saying "Don't I get a cookie?"
1) "Atomic" by Blondie
2) "Ring of Fire" by Social Distortion
From Monty Python and the Holy Grail "Help, help, I'm being repressed!"
3) "Minority" Greenday
Sarah from Labyrinth saying "You have no power over me."
4) "Simple Pages" Weezer
The dancer from Angel saying "I don't dance. I echo."
5) "Dancing Queen" Abba
6) "Tonight Tonight" Smashing Pumpkins
Sally from Practical Magic saying "Sometimes I feel there is a hole inside of me, an emptiness that at times seems to burn. I think if you lifted my heart to your ear, you could probably hear the ocean..."
7) "Motocycle Drive By" Third Eye Blind
8) "Ordinary World" Duran Duran
9) "Walls" Tom Petty
Dave Foley saying "Thank God for punk."
10) "Something to Believe In" the Ramones
Doyle saying "Look, high school's over, bud. You gotta make with the grown-up talk now."
11) "Ultraviolet" U2
12) "Don't Go Away" Oasis
the Mutant monster saying "Grr, Arg."
13) "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" Stevie Nicks
Vampire Willow saying "Leaving Now."

phoenix
You are a PHOENIX in your soul and your
wings make a statement. Huge and born of flame,
they burn with light and power and rebirth.
Ashes fall from your wingtips. You are an
amazingly strong person. You survive, even
flourish in adversity and hardship. A firm
believer in the phrase, 'Whatever doesn't kill
you only makes you stronger,' you rarely fear
failure. You know that any mistake you make
will teach you more about yourself and allow
you to 'rise from the ashes' as a still greater
being. Because of this, you rarely make the
same mistake twice, and are not among the most
forgiving people. You're extremely powerful and
wise, and are capable of fierce pride, passion,
and anger. Perhaps you're this way because you
were forced to survive a rough childhood. Or
maybe you just have a strong grasp on reality
and know that life is tough and the world is
cruel, and it takes strength and independence
to survive it. And independence is your
strongest point - you may care for others, and
even depend on them...but when it comes right
down to it, the only one you need is yourself.
Thus you trust your own intuition, and rely on
a mind almost as brilliant as the fire of your
wings to guide you.You are eternal and because
you have a strong sense of who and what you
are, no one can control your heart or mind, or
even really influence your thinking. A symbol
of rebirth and renewal, you tend to be a very
spiritual person with a serious mind - never
acting immature and harboring a superior
disgust of those who do. Likewise, humanity's
stupidity and tendency to want others to solve
their problems for them frustrates you
endlessly. Though you can be stubborn,
outspoken, and haughty, I admire you greatly.

Rain: You are the sound of rain. You have two
important sides. There is your strong, powerful
side and your calm, gentle side. Both are very
important. Rain also reflects a bit of darkness
in your personality. It isn't bad, just shows
that along with the good, you also can see bad,
which can come in handy. (please rate my quiz)

And now, what we're all really interested in...

Me bitching about the prigs again. It's all so moronic. I wish that wimp would turn the comments back on. I think if you're gonna have the brass to do what they're trying, they should at least face up to what people are going to say in response. Turning the comments off was a cowardly thing in my opinion. They have no case here. All those little snippets of "law" they're quoting deal in sites that deal in commerce, sites that make money. Fanfiction is a very penniless and often thankless job. I'm just glad they put a list of all the naughty fic together, so I can find it easier. *snerk* They're trying to frighten people into complying with their wishes by using some scare tactics, I agree. Stupid prudes. To quote Stiffler... "Let me get you a spoon, so you can EAT MY ASS!" It is amusing how stupid they are though. I find that most humorous.

Without the cuts, I think this is the biggest non-fic post that I have ever posted.
