24. What's a special tradition in your family that makes the holiday season special to you?
Even before my parents got divorced, we spent Christmas Eve with my Mom's family and Christmas Day with my Dad's side. After they got divorced my mother and I started the tradition of going to the movies Christmas Day night after I came home from Dad's. Sometimes my brother would go with us, sometimes he wouldn't. I think the best time we ever had was when the 3 of us went to Fellowship of the Ring and my brother screamed "What the fuck? They end it there? THERE?" I did not think Mom and I would ever stop laughing.
The year my Mom died, I was very lost. I was so numb I don't even remember that year. She died 2 days before Christmas. The following year was the hard one. My brother was in jail, and I didn't know how Christmas was going to go now that I was aware of my surroundings, but my stepmom and Dad made it better. We had brunch instead of lunch and then went to a noon movie. We started a new tradition, and I look forward to it every year now.
