If this is you, I'm sorry.

I got a review for SC today, that just... bugged me. It's just a fic, ladies and gents. Just fanfiction. I'm not trying to change the world or society with this one. I'm just trying to tell a story. Yes, I do believe this review was meant all in good humor which is why my response, though I was very irritated, was polite.

the review
Sorry. Couldn't resist writing this in. (I'm watching an ep. of Oprah while in the middle of reading this.) Surprise! Happens to be one of the eps. on relationships w/guest Greg Berand the author of book "He's just not that into you."

Relationship-wise, Tara should just drop the guy. He's a adult but in NO way is he mature enough for it. Sirius is a 'White Hat' so I don't think he'd mind giving monetary, time, and attention to mom/child. But, considering his personality and life experiences, I REALLY doubt he's going to put his heart and emotions into it.

Greg B. mentions, "You're pretty (and young) only one time period in your entire life, don't waste it on someone that doesn't deserve it."

Oprah just said, "If you know what you want and you're not getting what you want, then move on."

Also, I don't know why Sirius should be allowed to go anyways. The chasing down Death Eaters thing seems to be an Auror/Police operation and didn't sound like a Order of Phoenix inclusive activity. While he may've been in/thru Auror training, he's been thrown in jail and since he's gotten back out I don't recall that he'd been reinstated or whatever they call it. What's he doing getting involved?

Ack. Stop. That's enough for now. Bye!

I don't go with ANY of that. Someone can tell you that shit 'til the cows some home, but until you are ready to move on, you won't. That's why I don't watch Oprah. It's good advice. It really is, but only you can decide your life and its course (and yes, not choosing is still a choice). There is no magic cure for depression or heartache or being in a bad situation emotionally. All the good advice in the world won't heal you unless you're ready to be healed. And there's a specific person on my flist that knows EXACTLY what I am talking about (still proud of you). Yes, others can guide you, but only you make the recovery. Only you decide when things end and how it's gonna be.

I think you're taking a fic WAY too seriously. It's just a story.

You know what else, that advice is all fine well and dandy, but it's just not that easy when your heart is involved. It's easy to say that stuff from a distance, but when it's you, it's hard to just stop. I don't believe you're pretty and young only once. I think you can be pretty and young your whole life if you want. Age is a state of mind. And I'm not just talking out of my ass here. I know from heartache.

I'm just trying to write a good story. Please don't waste your time psychoanalyzing it. Again, it's just a story. If any of this relationship stuff were happening in real life, it'd be far messier than I'm writing it. And please don't try and rationalize what Sirius has done in the grand scheme of things. No, he shouldn't be allowed to go in on a 'police action', but who said he asked permission? Maybe he just followed. Consider that.

Just trying to storytell here. Geez.

Again, if this was your review, I do apologize. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

eta: Yes, I should be in awe that something I wrote has generated this much thought. Normally, I would be, but I just don't agree with the opinions stated there. And it's my livejournal. I can post my opinion here. I just want people to read, perhaps be entertained. I'm not out to make some sort of social commentary with this fic.
