I feel a bit discouraged today. I'm an adopted aunt and one of my adopted neices got given back to her blood family by the court system. *sigh* Now while I know few of the particulars here, as Auntie Liz lives a whole state away, I feel pretty crappy about it. There's a sense of loss here... and the rest of the kids are upset. Naturally. My nephew (my nephew... how cool does THAT sound) got into trouble at school about it. Fighting. And sad thing... I completely understand his compulsion to do so. I'm not saying it's right, but I get it. I SO get it.

I just feel so helpless here. I know all I can do is offer words of comfort, and words rarely feel inadequate to me, but they do today. It's not enough. Blood is a strong bond, but it's not always the strongest. In my heart I'll always be Thena's crazy Aunt Liz.

Oh and on another note, one of my artists friends has a troll. Tell me, ladies and ge'men, does this look like it sucks to you...

Miss Scarlet

For being done from scratch and just looking at a picture, I think it rocks. I know I sure couldn't have done it. I can't stand people who try to tear others down because they're jealous. It's completely stupid.

That's a seriously funky pic. I like the greens. What medium is that, exactly?

I don't know...exactly. Not rightly sure what you mean by meadium either. I'm a writer not a painter. I'm going to guess though. It's painted on canvas with water-based paints. That's what she usually uses. I think.

Yeah, medium is what they use. I'm not a painter, either, but my mother is, so I know a lot about oils.

I guess I'd think watercolours and acrylics or something, but I just thought I'd ask...the vivid effect of the person on the backdrop is neat.

I think it's watercolor. i know she does most of ehr stuff on canvas though. I'm not sure, but she's [livejournal.com profile] isabella_darko here on LJ. She could have it listed in her user info or at her site. If you like what you saw, you should definitely check out her art archive. She has a painting of Ray Charles that's ASTOUNDING.

Glad I'm being talked about but it's in a nice way...LOL..actually it's acrylic...which can basically turn into watercolors if dilluted enough..I never use oil paint cause it SUCKS ASS and takes FOREVER to dry...And thanks for pimping me, Spank :) Now I'll call you my Pimp...

Echo da Pimp. I can deal. My grandma uses oil and canvas and she paints scenery... and that's the extent of my painting knowledge.

Cool, I didn't know that :)..do you know if she stretches her own canvases or does she buy them?

I'm pretty sure she buys them. She's well into her 80s and has a pacemaker. I can't imagine her stretching anything.

First off excellent painting the minute I saw it I thought "Awesome, it looks just like the chick from Gone With The Wind", then I went to your LJ and saw that's who it is, so brilliant likeness.

Secondly, I wouldn't pay too much attention to online "critics", I have a friend who's a graphic artist, he used to work under a pseudonym, then he started to work under his own name, he'd hadn't published in a while so he posted some sample work to a list for feed back before he sent it out for consideration, people slammed it and listed some artists that he should look to for examples of what was good...one of the names was his pseudonym :-) Some people are threatened by good/new/different work and find it easier to slam the person.

As a person who is dealing with the adoption thing, I feel you. But trust me...adoptive parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins and all that good stuff are etched into the heart far deeper than most biological relatives. I speak from experience.

And to hell with trolls. I'm lucky if I can draw a straight line. I bet the troll doesn't even know what a straight line is.

See? I agree. There are people in my life who are just as closer, perhaps closer than my blood family.

As for the troll... I think she's a tracer.

And *LOVE* the icon. I was watching that movie earlier. I needed some cheer.

I read the whole incident with the troll...and it's pretty sad that she's almost my age. I like to think I behave better than that...most of the time.

The icon was found on one of many of the icon collages I've been seeing. I've been tracing them down and asking for snagging permission. It's hilarious to see them and I just HAD to have this one. GOSH!
