Has anyone else heard about this crap? Go to [livejournal.com profile] fandom_scruples to check it out. I think it's not half bad in the general form of the idea, but I just think they're going about it all wrong. If you want to make changes like the kinds they're wanting, you need to be nicer. Less zealot, because I get a very zealot feel from this. And boycotts? Goddess. It's just so square and prudish. I almost want to write some nasty smut and post it here without a cut away. I curse in my journal. Does that count? Let's see...

fuck

*looks around for the 'scruple police'*

I have naughty bits posted to my website, but I do have warnings on them. I believe age is a state of mind not of body. If someone is mature enough to handle it, I say let 'em handle. I don't think tossing up a list of writers to point accusing fingers at is the way to go. I think people should be able to post what they want in their lj... especially if they're paying for it. Also, posting that list like that... it just lets everyone know where to find the smut. (insert sarcasm here) Thanks for all the links to the porn! *thumbs up* Good job! I just think there are better causes to fight for.

Remove knickers, untwist, redress. Repeat as needed.

I couldn't believe it when I read about it on someone elses journal. The fact that this person is providing everyone who wants to read it but has no idea where to find it with a quick reference is a bad thing as far as she is concerned, but fantastic for anyone else.

The trouble with the whole thing is that everyone is giving her publicity, bad or good - in the same way that she is giving all those writers the same consideration.

I think it's amusing that so many of the writers I have seen mentioning this site are the ones that have yet to be mentioned, but they all want the same thing - a mention.

I think this is ridiculous. [livejournal.com profile] cinnamongrrl pointed this out earlier to me and I thought it was a joke. I mean, I understand the idea of limiting access to porn for minors [though I don't know of any minors that had problems finding porn of any sort if they wanted it] the witchhunt way she's gone about it is sort of, well, embarassing. As in she couldn't possibly think it would do any good...

Sigh. I just don't understand some people.

*sighs heavily* once again, someone comes along that feels the need to be morally superior and tell me what/how I should do the things I want to do.

I too, believe age is a state of mind. I know 20 year olds who can't handle R rated movies and 15 year olds who could blister my ear with their graphic descriptions of certain things I'd rather not have known about....

So who decides who should get to read what? Oh, it's not censorship, but everyone please, put the naughty fic behind a password....

And who decides what's naughty? THEM!

What I don't understand is... they are only getting upset over fics that they feel are too sexual in nature. So it's okay to expose our kids to people getting their heads blown off and exploding buildings, but two people doing something that comes naturally is anathema?

Sex doesn't warp minds... warped minds warp minds.

As far as hitting up their journal again, I'm not going to bother. If I ignore them like them, like most things on the net, they fade away and DIE!

Awww dammit.... got so riled I forgot to post my name to that.

That was me, Gem, by the way.

Screw them and screw the ones who say I can't write what I want. It's my life and my computer. When you pay my bills, you can run my life.

oh my...this is ridiculous. Echo, honestly, I don't think untwisting knickers is going to do much. I think stick/head/whatever's stuck surgically removed from posterier is more the remedy. It is a nice list of links to go looking for some new fic to read though. Evidently the Moralist doesn't want anyone contradicting them or pointing out it's a parent's job not the "village" not taking replies.

I have five kids and I find this absolutely ridiculous. We're strict with them. Nine yr old has been allowed all of four PG 13 movies in his life!

If the fic is properly labeled, behind lj cuts. I have no problem with it. I'm the parent, I decide what my kids are ready to handle. I don't need a village or the censor police to do that for me because I'm involved with my kids know what they're reading doing watching listening to.

Granted, my oldest is nine, still easy to completely control what they're exposed to for the most part, but while we're strict with the kids they're not raised in a cotton-wrapped ivory tower of unreality either. Would I freak if I caught my 13-14 yo reading smut. Well, kid would lose privileges for a while, talks about curiousity, what not quite probably. Degrees depending on what it was exactly. Something mildly R in a story with a plot and there just happens to be a couple naughty bits wouldn't get as big of a reaction as straight up NC-17 PWP. My kid at 17 I'd probably ask them if the story is any good. LOL.

Whole concept of being a parent, slowly letting them go, explore, read/watch are exposed to and giving them the tools to not be 'scarred for life' by reading a fanfic. If my child is 'damaged' by reading fanfic, then I've been pretty damn lax as a parent in keeping up with what they're doing and talking/teaching/parenting all the way around.

I don't know... it seems too moronic for words.

I have no problem with parents controlling what their children do, to a certain extent, but there is a difference between what parents know is best for their children and what total strangers know.

In these days kids can buy books at a bookstore that are just as pornographic as the smut they find online, without having to show ID's.

A community like that just gives the people who're looking better access to it. ... Because trying to search for something on LJ is searching in a whole lot of journals it can be difficult to find... but now you just go to this community and find links to it all...

Whatever happened to the free speech thing Americans are always toting about?

Of course the ratings are there for a reason, but total strangers have no business telling you how to "hide" your fic from the rest of the world (unless you've violated the rules of a site...) If they don't like it, don't look.

And it made me curious: It said that they were taking names from people... but they also seemed to be flamed a lot, and therefore have controlled posting... something's rotten in the state of Denmark. If you have a community like that, and may I just say how incredibly childish it is to stage boycotts?, you should also be open to other people's opinions.

Bigotted Zealots.

Ranty pants ON: OK, this is beyond stupid. They're doing exactly what they're trying to prevent. Someone didn't think this thing through very logically. ;> They've crated a one stop porn shop for everyone who wants to read some good porn. Way ta go guys! Corrupt those kiddies! Fill their pure & innocent little minds with the possibility of Harry & Draco boinking like bunnies, then inviting Hermione along for the ride for some good old double penetration. ;D We can only hope they have an excuse for being so monumentally stupid... inbreeding maybe?

Ranty pants OFF: Seriously, I TOTALLY understand about protecting adult fic. I do it at 2 of my sites. I HAVE to. If just one parent complains about the adult fic at my site, my host could delete my account. This, however, is just plain stupid. If they're so concerned with adult fic on LJs, they need to contact the staff of livejournal.com & let them deal with it, as they're the only people who can actually make a difference in this idiotic little campaign.

Jen:)

P.S. Those cowards aren't even accepting replies! I wasn't going to flame, I was just going to insert a bit of logic in to their botched attempt to free the net of porn.

you see... now I'm going to go write a sex scene on my LJ just to get on their little list. ::sigh:: I'm a rebel and an outsider I guess.
