crazy

The craziest thing just happened to me.

Seriously, the craziest thing. So I was at Hot Topic. I was in the market for a new tee shirt. I was hoping for something in a Weezer. It just so happened the started playing the new Weezer in the store, so I was browsing and singing along quietly. Then I hear...

"A redhead that likes the Ramones and she knows the words to Weezer, I think I've died and gone to heaven."

I was wearing my Ramones tee. And after recent guy troubles, I'm on guard. But he's very adorably cute in a punk rock sort of way. So I'm extra on guard now.

me (glaring): "What of it?"
he: "Hostile."
me: "At times."
he: "I like that too." pause "I'm name removed." Let's call him Buddy.
me: "I'm not interested."
he: "I didn't catch your name."
me: "Probably because I didn't throw it."

Insert Hot Topic workergirl laughter here. She was mightily amused by the exchange.

me: "How old are you, Buddy?"
he: "27"

Ah... not as young as he looks. Perhaps I am interested, so I smile. After all he *IS* charming. He does happen to look my type a bit.

he: "I have been judged worthy then? Does this mean I get a number? I don't bite... unless asked."

I smile again and turn to leave. After all, I'm feeling a bit fragile and unsure. He's very attractive, and I've been lured in by that before and only found trouble. Also, I quit trying to pick up guys at the mall when I got my driver's license.

Only I don't get to leave. Buddy grabbed one of my belt loops and yanked me back. Normally this behavior would get the shit smacked out of him. But he sorta sexy-voiced in my ear... "We're not done yet, Red."

When I whipped around to administer the beating, he added this... "I can't give up so easy. Not with that Ramones tee shirt on."

I was amused, so I gave him my email. The phone rings too much at my house anyhow.

And this is where things REALLY get weird.

he: "Echo Liz?"
me: "Yeah."
he: "I have to ask... Are you Echo? Are you Liz Ashe?"
me: "Yeah."
he: "Holy shit! I've read some of your stuff! You're fucking brilliant!"

So he's shouting and I'm turning seven shades of scarlet by now. His "holy shit" nearly made me pee my pants it was so loud and shouty. And the workers of Hot Topic are moving our way curiously. They want to know what's going on.

he: "She's famous."
me: "Not yet really."
he:"She's got a book coming out. It's gonna be great."
me: "Well, thank you."

And now I sorta wanted to leave.

The rest is a bit of a blur. I managed to get out of there after answering a lot of questions and Buddy getting the girl working there to take a picture of myself and him with his cell phone. i'm not supposed to have my first "celebrity sighting" before my book is even out. Too weird, and humbling as well. I feel ten feet tall right now. Very good.

And Buddy's gonna email me. After all he was very charming before he turned all psycho fanboy on me. LOL. No offense meant if you're reading this, Bud. You just took me by surprise.

Weird day. And to think none of this would have happened if I'd gone into work as certain folks wanted today.

.. that is too bizarre. In a really, really awesome sort of way. That's kinda .. the sort of thing that happens in fic, moreso than to people who write fic. Very very cool. :)

Me and Dan laugh at the coolness of your exchange. I almost want to move to Texas just to go shopping with you and witness you being chased around the mall by people waving your book at us.

Especially if they're asian and on vacation just to catch a glimpse of you.

That's very cool. I hope your future conversations with him are as cool as your first.

I think that is just about the coolest way to meet a guy ever. And he liked you before he knew who you were so you don't have to worry that he just likes you for your wicked brilliant writing although he loves that too so that gets extra points. He's not just your run of the mill fan boy.

This is all so very fandomish, I love it.

P.S I wish we had Hot Topic stores in sydney. there are no good t-shirt stores anymore.

Only cause creel sounds like something whales eat.

Ah yes, marine biologist humor...don't mind me.

Hey, I am wannabe marine bio geek so no finger pointing here.

And yeah - creel doesn't sound right.

"Hey, I think this new low-fat creel is really working. Can you see a difference?"

"Ssssoooooooooooorrrrrrrrt oooooooooooooooooooooooffffffff."

And now I have to apologize for the Finding Nemo riff.

Seriously, marine bio is awesome. I actually wanted to be a marine mammal vet specalist until I realized I suck at the math required for more advanced forms of chem. :D

This experience must be so surreal ;) The whole grabbing the belt loop thing while you're walking away just doesn't happen! It's like this sexy Draco moment, but in real life...weird. But cool too since he seems charming :) And, he's got great taste...he likes your writing after all. But it's so random to meet someone from fandom...If you think about all the people out there and the small percentage of fandom people like us, it's highly unlikely you'd ever meet someone. Cool thougth :)

Very weird.

But hey... You're further along than I am!

And is it just me, or was he channeling your Spike when he was hitting on you?

Oh, that has got to be strange.

I think the ten feet tall feeling is totally deserved...flirtation and writerly validation in one exchange? Definitely deserved.

*grin* Has to be about the coolest exchange...ever. And ever so weird but again cool. I thought things like that didn't happen in real life, but there you go. And he sounds both cute and interesting. Hope future email conversations are fantastic.

Wow - talk about cool. Echo met a real live fan! A boy fan - and he's cute, charming, and appreciates her writing. This sounds very promising! :)

By the way, did you tell him your LJ, or are you afraid your crazy friends would drive him away? :P

Well, good luck with 'Buddy'!
