Sweet baby Jesus!
So... I went and watched this at the IMAX with
tthjinni and
star1sar yesterday. I highly reccomend it. This movie was made of awesome. It's visually stunning, to me anyhow. Just gorgeous. And I'm not talking about the guys... though I will get to that in a moment. It's edited very well. The shots were pretty. Even the battle sequences were pretty, and I won't lie, there's blood, but not gore. It's a battle, so there is the hacking of limbs and stabbing, but they don't dwell on it really. It's more about the story. Which was nice, in my opinion.
What I really loved was the fighting. It was almost always like a dance. There was such poetry to it. Though some people have commented that they disliked how the speed of the shot would slow down or speed up in the fighting, I enjoyed that. Real clashing is like that. Sometimes time seems to slow down. It was crazy. It seemed to fit in my head like that so well. The best, THE BEST, to me was the battle sequence with Stelios and Astinos where they were fighting together and just ripping the sh*t out of some Persians. It was like a dance. They were very beautiful, and "danced" well together. I was very sad that Astinos got the old head chop right after that. He and Stelios made good heterosexual life partners.
And any movie that had a Gollum look alike is gold. The guy next to me had me nearly peeing myself. "What's Sparta, Precious?" That just looked like Gollum. I think it was Gollum's Spartan cousin. This was also made funnier by the fact that David Wenham (Faramir) played Dilios, who was also narrating the story.
Also, any movie where they guys look as good as these did and their "fightin' uniform" consists of f*ck-me boots, red cape, shield, stabbing weapon, and leather underpants is made of awesome. "Them's my leather fightin' undies!" I just couldn't get enough of those Spartans in their bitty costumes. Michael Fassbender (AKA Stelios AKA Azazeal on Hex) *sigh* *dieses* He was made of pretty, so was his boyfriend Tom Wisdom (Astinos). And old King Leonidas? Gerard Butler? Butt being the key part of that last name. Damn. Damn. His ass was uber hot. Literally. His butt was awesome. When he was standing at the window ass naked? That was HOTT. Very nice bottom on that guy. Very nice. And you could bounce a quarter off of most of him. So the wardrobe choices were very nice.
It was like watching a parade. Well, you know, if the parade stabbed people and forced them off of cliffs into the sea. *considers* That'd be an awesome parade.
