spankerella: (don't I get a cookie)

Expect very little fic this week.

It's been a weird last couple of days, and I'm very tired of people bitching about the broken links on GC, so the next few days I will be attempting to rectify that situation... because some of you are SO F-ING SNOOTY about it. Like I have the time to be jacking with angelfire. I'm seriously thinking of yanking the site down. I really don't have time to be messing with it. It takes so long to get everything uploaded, and half of it's on angelfire and the other half is still on geocities. I'm almost to the point where I feel like saying, hey, who wants to start from scratch and build me a new fic site? It'll take AGES to locate all the fic, but we can try. I used to love updating my websites. Now it just seems like a chore.

Plus, I got a response from ghost. I got it on Saturday afternoon. I still don't think I can be polite enough to respond to her. So I haven't yet. *sigh* I was really frustrated by the reply. She said she read a lot of my fic and didn't realize she had put those phrases in there word for word. And I say... my ASS! How could she NOT realize? She also asks me to forgive her. Mmm. Not ready for that yet, so... emphatic no. Grr. Still irritated. Doesn't look like that reply will be forthcoming today either. I mean, this repsonse to my query was along the lines of "Ooops, my bad". It really irritated me. It so reminded me of the first time I was plagiarized and the girl acted like she didn't think she'd really done anything wrong. Grr. Very frustrating.

I will mostly be working on "I Have Never..." and "Dark Sinister" for the next few weeks. I want to complete them. My muse is being sort of flakey. She doesn't want to work on "Snake Charming" even though I'm due for another part on that. We'll see. I also need to work on "Chase Malfoy" desperately, but my muse, she don't wanna go there. She also doesn't wanna finish the second match in "Playing with Matches" even though I'm more than halfway done with it.

to do:
*20 minute Fred
*hp drabble
*part 14 "I Have Never Felt Your Fear"
*part 13 "A Bit if the Dark Sinister"
*Californiaverse interlude

You know what's interesting? She posted her apology as a review to her other fic on TtH. Go here to see it:

http://www.tthfanfic.com/readreviews.php?set=read&no=4193

Marcus' review amused me. I thought the same thing when I went to read it, and if it's not really a crossover, then it'll have to get yanked. Too bad, that.

Heh.

I know all about muse issues. Mine has run away with me on this Dawn.Wolvie fic, and it just won't let me go to do diddly squat else. Grumble.

Marcus's review of "My Immortal" is very amusing.

I just don't know what to do with all of this. I know I should respond to that email she sent me, but I just don't trust myself not to go off on her, and until I do, I think I'll be sitting on that reply.

I don't undertsnad why people don't read the information provided on the posting of non-crossovers. I further don't understand, even if they did not, the site is a crossover site. Don't they think first and foremost that's what should be being posted there?

Right. Just read the post she did on the review section of her story, My Immortal, link via [livejournal.com profile] houses7177. Again, right. And she thinks this will rectify that how? Again, the fact that you're not out there flaying her alive makes me admire you more.

As for other fic situation, don't we all know how flakey muses can be, sometimes? And you've got lots of fics that are currently WIPs, so that would make it seem worse.

As for your site, three years is a long time. Some. And it's sad that it seems to be a chore, now. And I'd offer on the making a new site thing if I wasn't completely hopeless at it myself.

There was a time not too long ago that I would have ripped her a new arsehole, but I am trying to gain a bit of a handle on that temper of mine. The things I say in my head aren't so nice.

Actually in September, GC will be 4. In August, the CF will be 2. And I think the lovely and wonderful [livejournal.com profile] jennie_wls had solved my problem for me.

Four? *gapes* wow. To think I've been around reading fanfiction for nearly 3 years, then. Wow.

And gladness on the fact that the problem was solved.

Oh Echo,

I have no problem on your site, and if I can't find it then I go to another of the sites where I know I can find it - your sites are well set up, but you are a busy writer, and a busy person in general...Ignore them and carry on with the writing...<---has noticed what two of the fics you have there for updating are :-D

And I can't believe the cheek of Ghost..."I didn't even realise" my ARSE! She noticed, she just didn't want to admit that she was doing it. Well her fic has been taken down and you being furious is perfectly understandable.

Sit down, write something, read something, or watch TV (trying to figure out a way to distract you from it all)...

Most of my HP and crossover stuff can be found loads of places. The problem comes when someone wants to read my older BtVS fics. Those aren't posted in very many places anymore. But I think a solution is in the making, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jennie_wls.

As for ghost... *sigh* I'm still trying to weed all the swears out of my reply.

Echo, do you need somewhere to host your site? I've got lots of room at willowslilsecret.net. Maybe we could get 4 or 5 people to be mods (or possibly more 'cause you've written a lot of fic), & we could work on getting a site up for you. I'm not very good with graphics, but I'm sure someone would be happy to donate some art for the layout plus all the graphics you already have at GC. We might even be able to find someone who'll do a nice layout for the site. What do you think?

Hugs,
Jen:)

What i would really love, and tell me if this is too complicated, is a an efiction script sort of site for both Getting Cookies and the Cursing Ferret. Something where only I or my uploaders could become "authors" on. Self-loading is so easy for me. That's why I love TtH. I was seriously thinking of saying if anyone could do this for me, I'd be willing to help pay their costs. I'll keep School of Write as it is on angelfire and have like a splash page for GC and the CF and then have the archives for the fic. If that made any sense. I tried looking inot efiction script myself not too long ago, and I'm just HOPELESS about it.

Actually, eFiction would be easier & much faster since a lot of people are already pretty familiar with the script. :} Everything is free unless you want subdomains, but if you're going to keep the splash pages at angelfire we don't have to worry about it. When do you want to start?

I've got the same problem with the site-managing. I make one, but updating it with new chapters is always such a chore. What I intend to do when I remake it this time... for the umpteenth time, and I hope to get it done so much that I can actually upload it, is to just begin by linking to the old stories I've got on ff.net, not actually begin posting them until I have a system.

I have a short attention-span when it comes to sites, actually I've got pretty much short attention-span at anything, which is why I'm a fast reader...

I did consider getting my own domain, and putting up the e-fiction script, or something similar, just to make everything easier. But then I'd have to maintain the site in a new way...

No easy solutions.

I like doing the splash page and all that. The problem is the actual fic uploading is time-consuming and a bit tedious. I have been provided with a solution that is PERFECT for me though. So hopefully this will be my last "griping" about updating my sites.

Fic Site

I don't know much at all about the mechanics of websites but I say just fix any problems in your own time. We all have lives to lead and many demands on our time. Personally I think that your fic is worth waiting for if there are problems accessing it. Hell, sometimes waiting can increase the anticipation and enjoyment of it, even if it is just rereading stuff. Like I said do it when you have time not when other people want it now.

Ciao

I'll jump on the bandwagon and also offer to host, although others have offered. I'd be willing to do a layout, at least. Or if you'd like to separate some of the personal stuff from the fic, I'd host a personal site. I've got tons of space and insane amounts of unused bandwidth and I think 8 or 9 subdomains still to be used. E-mail me if you're at all interested: katie@nothing-gold.com
