I need to finish "Jealous Face" and "The Distance to You". Don't know if I feel like writing a full part of something today. Might do a few minis.

You know what I like about cooler weather? Besides my getting to wear my fabulously funky winter wardrobe... tomato soup. Man, I love me some tomato soup. Had it with toasted cheese sandwich today. Mmmm-mmmm.

eta: We have ourselves some chickens. The folks that owned the chickens moved... and left their chickens. My mom can't bear it when animals have nowhere to go, so we have chickens. They've taken roost in one of our trees. Mom said she's gonna go to the feed store and buy some chicken scratch for them, so we've got ourselves two cute chickens. I've been calling them Harry and River.

Tomato soup and grilled cheese! I want that now! Wonder if I have any tomato soup. Perhaps I can make some from scratch, but it's just not the same as Campbell's Tomato Soup.

I have to have toasted cheese. Grilled the way grilled cheese ought to be... too much butter for my system to handle. Tomato soup is also yummy with those cheesy goldfish crackers in it.

Oh, I love chickens and fresh eggs. If I lived nearby still I'd totally covet any eggs they produce. Sounds like you have a handle on how to keep them, which is good. We had barred rocs before and I loved them. So cute, such nummy eggs. What sort of chickens are they, if you know?

My grandmother told me, but I can't remeber what she called them for anything just now. All I know is that they are both a really pretty dark gold color. Will have to try to take pictures, I guess. LOL.

YES! Tomato soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwhiches. It is finally the perfect weather for that. That was like a staple growing up. Every Sunday afternoon, well almost every Sunday, when fall started, my mom would make Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese. Partially cause we were poor and it was cheap and partially because it was sooo damn good.

Chickens, huh? Does it get real cold where you live? If it does, you might want to think about building a little roost for them. Something with a roof. A little dog house with some hay in it will work. And if it gets real cold maybe a red heat lamp for the really chilly nights.

I live in Michigan and my Mother-in-law (who also lives in MI) owns chickens. That's what she does during the winter.

Unless of course you've had chickens before and you know what to do, than just ignore me. lol.

Texas. Doesn't get THAT cold here. Also... hick girl alert. My great grandmother used to live on a working farm. She grew cotton and had cattle... among other animals of a farm variety. I know chickens. Not as well as I know cows though. A sad commentary on my life, huh?

Not sad. Knowing farm animals isn't sad. Just makes you that much more smarter than the city people who don't know nutin'.

Hey, I'm a hick girl too. I live in a township that has 2000 people or less. And it's ALL farmers. There are a few city people who live on 1 acre or less lots and commute to the city. But most everyone else has 10 acres and grows corn or soybeans or hay or cattle or pigs. The dairy farm down the road bothers new comers for awhile. But we tell them you get used to the smell after a time. And you do. I never notice it unless someone points out, "What the hell is that smell?"

"What the hell is that smell?"

Anyone driving over or even just near the Trinity River on I-30 here has asked that very question. Welcome to Dallas. LOL.

Oh wow, that brings back some memories. I grew up "down the road" from a dairy farm. The dairy truck passed our house twice a day, kicking up dust. And the fresh milk was the best tasting milk I ever had. I remember "helping" the worker milk the cows. I thought the suction machines were the coolest thing in the world, and spraying the shit out of the barn was actually fun.

Mmm...grilled cheese. Too bad I already ate dinner before I read this, or I might of had grilled cheese and tomato soup. Maybe tommorow. We're having rainy cold weather today, and it would have been perfect. Oh well. And have fun with the chickens. Just don't let the city know that their yours. I'm sure your city has an ordinance like my town does where you can't own any livestock within the city corp. Otherwise, they'll take your chickens away, and what's the fun of that. Oh yeah, totally love the chickens names.

Actually I don't think our city has one of those ordinances because my grandparents used to have chickens before my Grandpa died. And my Grandma lives across the street from us. My mother laughed about the names. I said Harry was the big one and River was the smaller one. Now she's calling them Harry and River.

That's good to know. Are the chicken's laying eggs? 'Cause nothing beats fresh eggs.
